AKA: Gabriel realizes he is in some deep doo-doo.
Chapter 1: Gabriel and Brand appear in the font.
Brand, in an effort to recharge his energy, begins to suck in all available energy including my own. Rather than have his life-force sucked away by Brand, Gabriel wisely left the font, ate breakfast, and meditated on his plans to take over the universe while Brand recovered.
When Brand stepped out, they chatted about a number of things: crocheting tips, fashion accessories, and the nature of the enemies arrayed against them.
Brand then said: CENSORED
Gabriel then asked about the CENSORED
to which Brand replied CENSORED
"Very interesting," said Gabriel.
Brand did seem surprised that the Unicorn/Logrus/Faerie thing expressed glamour ... implying that Faerie may(?) be a primal force akin to Pattern and the Logrus. The long-term meaning of that is unclear.
Brand is still uncertain whether the Unicorn is actually dead, and this is some beast that has taken its place for reasons still uncertain ... or whether this is the real thing.
Without more information, we concluded that we could not go any further with this theory. We also could not come up with any way to break the theories down into hypotheses to allow us to figure out which theory is more valid.
Gabriel espoused his theory (which has yet to be derailed) that the Unicorn thing had its personality shattered with the creation of the Pattern. Oberon's control and manipulation of his children enabled him to hold the Unicorn in check (notice it never really did anything or showed up until after Oberon left Amber ... gosh, I am clever). The less control exists over the Pattern, the more the unicorn might be able to act, and it does seem to have an agenda as seen by the vision that it showed Raj (that Gabriel also received and shared with Gregory).
Without more information, this theory is as good as any other. And there are very few people left who can answer this question ... Dworkin being one. Speaking of which, can Gabriel borrow someone's Trump deck sometime? Perhaps an older deck? Thank you!
In Gabriel's opinion, there are two options:
1) Strengthen the pattern to put the Unicorn back in place (assuming his theory is accurate). Unfortunately, with no Jewel of Judgment, there is no known way of doing this.
2) In a previous Trump reading I performed, I found that there were three principle people that must "stop what they are doing and do something else" or else the path initiated by the recent changes will move to fruition. Those three people were: Osric, Merlin, and Brand.
Osric, Brand proclaims him to be a madman. When I pointed out that some people would make the same claim about him ... he was not too amused but did not kill me. Rather, he explained that he acted malevolently, but for understandable reasons. The same cannot be said about Osric (according to Brand). But Osric was banished and hidden away ... Brand phrased it this way, "If you are going to kill a lion, you do not back it into a corner and torture it first." What is Osric's path, and how do we get him to change? More data needed.
Merlin(?): Now King of Chaos. When I told him that the whole duel thing appeared to be rigged, he answered that he was not surprised, it is always that way in Chaos. He did announce that Dara was dead and that traces of Pattern were found in her room. Whether Corwin did this to her or not is unclear. However there are a few things that should be noted:
A) Dara has Pattern. Is it possible to figure out who used Pattern where she was found to find out whether she used the power to defend herself from an attacker, or whether her attacker used it?
B) Brand hinted that Dara's death is very convenient for Mandor. As Mandor apparently manipulated Dara to boink Corwin (and possibly manipulated the hell-maid to boink Benedict?). With Merlin King, this makes Mandor's position slightly more secure.
C) What is up with Merlin anyway? If Merlin has a path that will lead to the destruction of the known Universe, what is it? And how do we get him to change?
Brand: CENSORED
Okay, not really. Brand is a really proficient killer. Quite possibly one of the best left around. The Unicorn made him fix the Font. Great ... what does this do?
A) It makes Brand really powerful. Great. He can now kill almost anyone he wants.
B) Because Brand is really powerful, it makes people want to kill him.
Either way, people are going to die or be placed out of action. In my mind, if the Unicorn is seeking the best way to neutralize the Pattern, having us kill each other is the best way to do it.
Unfortunately, what good is having all of this power if you do NOT use it? Brand being a brilliant guy, gets bored easily, and he is getting tired of things being complicated. If there are less people around, logically things will become clear. So Brand is trying to do that. Apparently (as noted before) he has killed a number of people in chaos that he deemed to be a threat.
Unfortunately, he has suffered a major concussion and could not remember who he killed, how he got his wounds, and who is left that is still a threat.
He did inquire as to how he got his wounds (notable as they were) especially the concussion. I said that Raj was possessed by the Unicorn/Serpent/Faerie thing and was not under his right mind when he hit Brand.
"Ah," said Brand, "that poor, poor boy."
I decided I needed to talk to everybody else and find out what the deal is with Corwin. I went back to my quarters, racked spells of CENSORED, and went back to Brand to talk about CENSORED.
That interview took a half day, and in the end, I felt more powerful.
I then pulled out my trumps and will hopefully soon disappear in a rainbow glow.
