Everybody tells Everybody Else Something

Somehow, unbeknownst to this chronicler, Raj managed to accompany Gerard on his sojourn to Osric. He cleverly stole the Great Sword of Gerard and hid it in his pocket1. Then he trumped back to Amber via Caine. Caine had his own Big Sword of Power, Grayswandir, strapped to his horse. He left without allowing Raj the chance to steal it. So Raj examined the recent repairs to the stables. They had a decidedly Morgensternian look to them, which one of the stablehands described as something Gregory had accomplished.

Giselle, unable to stay in one place for more than twenty minutes due to a curse placed on her as a baby by an itinerant dental technician, went to visit with various fae nobles. Once she got past the lichen-covered sentry modelling Gabriel’s next “look,” she spoke with Ailill. It seems that there is an encampment of the Unseelie host. Apparently Lugh Really Really Seelie has assumed kingship over the fae and driven the Unseelie away.

In the morning, Magni awoke and dressed in his ordinary robe and enchanted slippers. He joined Aedan, Raj, and Gabriel in the Breakfast Nook. They ate many melon balls and decided to send Aedan to Chaos while investigating some Shadow crap along the way. They loaded up a tray and delivered breakfast to Martin, who was sporting a fine chenille bathrobe sans slippers. Martin agreed to have some sort of document drawn up for Aedan to take to Chaos that didn’t quite proclaim him formal envoy to the Courts and to give him a summary of Random’s notes about Chaos. Magni was seriously disappointed in Martin’s lack of slipperware, so he ate his melon balls.

Giselle told the fae people all about Amber’s troubles, who was doing what, how many soldiers were in each garrison, what the shift schedules were, and which parts of the outer wall were badly in need of rebuilding. Then she declared that she would “educate” us as to the ways of faerie. No wonder she was captured and killed by Brand. Oops. I’m getting ahead of myself.

Flora’s daughter popped in to Castle Amber long enough to tell Martin that Lugh was in charge, Ailill was mustering the Unseelie, and that the Inn at the Crossroads was the only neutral ground available. Since it isn’t available, there is no more neutral ground in the fae realms. Martin had returned only that morning from Rebma. He was unable to learn anything new about Llewella’s alleged suicide. Giselle agreed to try to find someone to teach Fulke’s soldiers how not to get killed in Arden.

GM's Commentary

in which you will find some references to the actual events that occurred in the game -- usually less amusing (or flattering to Todd's character) than the Chronicler's version...

1. um, no, he didn't.

Menhirs, Dolmen, and Henges (oh my!)

Corwin gave Aedan some more useful advice, a silver rose cloak clasp, and a request that Aedan remind him to have Corwin give him Grayswandir when he got it back2. Aedan packed and met Raj and Magni at the stables. They all got on their horses and immediately trumped through to Gabriel.

Gabriel had set out a picnic for three strangers—or two magically summoned guys and a man in turquoise and gold who bore a passing resemblance to someone somebody saw once in a bar, when it was dark, after eleven beers, and no, you wouldn’t recognize him again even if he were gripping your testicles in a threatening manner. The two guys had apparently been summoned to the ring of stones Gabriel was investigating. They declined Gabriel’s offer of cheese sandwiches (note to Gabriel: next time use real cheese) and vanished inside the ring of stones into some freaky shadow veil.

The third guy had some powerful cross-shadow device in his backpack which Gabriel didn’t swipe. He eventually vanished into the ring of stones as well. Some words of wisdom passed along by these guys:

“We are going in the direction of new shadow. From the man who had one hand in the Abyss and one on the Pattern and created the Shadow between.”

“He does not know whose hand he really holds.”

“The Man who talked to Chaos started it all.”

They also referred to Amber as “the Second Realm.”

When the rest of the group showed up, Raj stepped through the veil. Gabriel waited ten seconds then tried to reach Raj via Trump. He kept trying for the next half hour. Then he trumped Corwin and went back to Amber to tell everyone. Just to show that their actions couldn’t be predicted, Magni and Aedan didn’t hop through the Shadow veil. Nyah. However, they couldn’t completely overcome their nature and they devoured Gabriel’s sandwiches. They were okay, I guess, if you’re hungry and there’s nothing else around.

Horsey Ride Toward Chaos

Gabriel returned and left a sorcerous beacon at the spot where Raj died disappeared. the three fellows rode toward Corwin’s Pattern in the direction of all the weird stuff: summoned guys, new shadow, and plastic swizzle sticks shaped like gardening implements.

Brand’s son shifted slowly, so as to leave no wake, and it took until the next morning to arrive at Corwin’s Pattern. They dismounted and spoke with Ygg. According to the Tree, Corwin’s Pattern has no anchor. It also has no mast, sail, or rudder, and is, in fact, completely unseaworthy.

In the meantime, Giselle steadfastly refused trump calls and stopped communicating altogether—after all that time Gabriel devoted to making Trumps of her, you would think she would have the common decency to answer. But no, she is incommunicado and probably already working on her excuse: “I was captured, held prisoner where trumps don’t work, and subjected to hours of playing Scrabble without any E’s. Oh, the horror.”3

3. um, yes, in fact, she was, except for the Scrabble part. Even Brand wouldn't do that thing with the Scrabble part.
