Miss Euphemism, With The Fork, In Chaos

As you may recall, Gregory has been in Arden for some time now. During this session, he actually did something there. I don’t know what it was, but it was something. Oh, and General Fulke is still missing. Remember him—the guy who infected Benedict? Gregory didn’t find him in the Fae Realms, but he did find Lugh. They reopened negotiations between Amber and Faedom. Lugh is very broad-shouldered for an elf; in fact, he played Rugby for the elves in the last interkingdom match which they narrowly lost to the Goblins and Wargs team.

Raj checked out the “inappropriate offerings” found in the Grove of the Unicorn: a big, oogy animal heart that the Church said didn’t burn. He took the thing back to Amber where Flora said that it didn’t have any sorcerous elements about it, and that it should be served only with red wine and asparagus. Raj put it under his hat where nobody will notice.

Giselle, still frolicking around the Courts of Chaos, had a long dinner with Mandor. Then she trumped Magni and joined him and Aedan in their suite with Merlin. The King of Chaos repeated his assertion that “Martin” was a construct, though it was imbued with the Pattern. The four of them discussed various ways of investigating before Merlin was called away by important duties. Magni got the horses while Aedan told Giselle all about his new friend with eight arms and cool presents.

GM's Commentary

in which you will find some references to the actual events that occurred in the game -- usually less amusing (or flattering to Todd's character) than the Chronicler's version...

Mr. Orange, Green, and Red, With the Trump Sword, In Tir na Nog’th

Raj used his new pokey toy and ended up at the Abyss. Since the edge of the Abyss is a dangerous place to be hanging out (what with Unicorns and Serpents dancing the forbidden dance, and pieces of the city crumbling into the Great Wide Open) Raj’s lover Eve showed up to protect him. They spoke at some length, but didn’t make whoopee again.

Gregory returned to Amber and gave Martin a preliminary report of his meeting with Lugh and the state of affairs in Arden. Martin expressed his fear of infiltrators in the castle. Magni and Aedan arrived late at night and arranged for a secret, “infiltrators-only” meeting, at Corwin’s Tomb. Raj and Gregory showed up and learned the secret handshake. All four agreed to meet with Martin at seven o’clock the next morning and to try and trick him into letting them detect “acute construct-itis” of his lesser digits. They went back to the castle to sleep.

Or so it seemed. With Ameer’s absence, someone had to stay up and do skeevy things all night. This time it was Aedan. He ended up talking with a very real-seeming Martin in Tir Na Nog’th. When Aedan tried to heal this Martin’s funky Pattern-wedge shaped wound, everybody in the Universe felt something. They all woke up with a sharp pain in their sides that wasn’t gas.

Colonel Magni, On the Staircase, With the Revolver

Meanwhile in Chaos, Giselle made a telephone. Really. Then she went to the Fae realms. Finnvarra is still almost alive, breathing very shallowly and looking sickly and starved. Odds against full recovery: 350 to 1.

Magni awoke and assembled the younger generation in the library. Aedan arrived and told them what he had done and the subsequent consequences. Magni, Aedan, Gregory, and Raj all tromped up to the King’s quarters to confront Martin. He reluctantly agreed to accompany them to the Pattern room, but changed his mind when he learned that they expected him to walk the Pattern that very night. Martin claimed he was too weak, hadn’t had enough sleep, needed to comb his hair, etc. He turned around and left angrily. Magni did something that resulted in a loud “click” noise and disappeared.1

Raj convinced Aedan and Gregory to go back to Tir and find the real-seeming Martin. So Aedan did his trick again and they ended up in the West Tower. Yes, that’s the tower that exploded. Raj and Aedan got to watch Random’s and Fiona’s ghosts get shrapnellized by the phantom Jewel of Judgment. Meanwhile, Gregory found Martin and tried to convince him to return to the land of living large. Aedan also tried to convince him to let them heal his Pattern-wound.2 Raj and Aedan arrived, and they all went to Arden. Giselle took them to her workshop in the Fey realms. Magni showed up fashionably late, but just in time to help restore Martin’s weird Pattern-wound to normal with much communal, freaky power-slinging. In the ensuing maelstrom, Gregory burned his hand on Aedan’s white-hot, sexy disco body.

Everybody is Wounded:

1.          Raj: wound healing on thigh (Benedict).

2.          Aedan: cut on left thumb (Bleys).

3.          Magni: bandaged whole left hand (Serpent).

4.          Giselle: bruiselike marks on neck (Merlin).

5.          Gregory: burned fingers (Aedan).

6.          Gabriel: bruised ego (choo-chooooo ker-eeeeeekkkkkkksshhhh!!!)

1. It was about 3 a.m. Amber time when the PC's woke Martin. Both this "construct Martin" and the real Martin could not walk the Pattern without serious risk of death (so serious that, as a GM, I would have killed either one outright had they actually attempted it without heavy intervention on the part of the PC's). When Martin realized what the PC's were trying to make him do, he tried to back out. From behind him (and hidden from the other PC's) Magni pulled a gun and tried to shoot him, but the gun did not work in that place. In fact, no gun powder at all was working in Amber at that time. All the PC's and Martin were left with was the suspicious click noise and empty air where Magni was before he ported away.

2. This was the wound Martin suffered when he was stabbed by Brand before Patternfall. The parts of the Pattern damaged then were imprinted in the wound, which never healed. In his defense, Martin did try to convince the PC's that healing this wound -- kept open by the will of the Pattern -- might have unexpected consequences.
