End of game position:
Martin had decided to help Benedict. The fact there was something he could see and Benedict couldn't kept him from joining with Benedict directly. Ben offered him protection and a bit of his power. (whatever that was, exactly, Martin didn't get a very clear idea) Martin told him that he wanted to investigate the tower and then he'd come back.
So Martin went into the tower. After some freaking out and some discussion, he figured that if the jewel was indeed destroyed and the Pattern fading, something will need to be done. So he accepted her offer. Once he went through that ordeal, he was already beginning to regret it, he asked if she could teach him what the heck he could do. She told him she'd teach him but not now. For now he should figure things out on his own.
After I think calling her 'bitch' for that, she laughed and he felt good and joyful, knowing it was from her influence. Wanting to keep his promise, he left the tower to return to Benedict's camp.
He saw the camp vanishing in black cloud. He had the choice of shadow or the cloud and picked well, to be with Benedict in order to keep his word, so...there we are.
Internally, he's a bit shocked still that pretty much all those he held dear are dead, Random, Llewella, possibly Benedict. That Amber is fading and his aunts and uncles are bickering amongst themselves (this is all Benedict's point of view that was given to Martin) While with Vialle, he decided that perhaps it was time to step up to the plate. Technically, he's Random's heir, the only known son. He's a right to the throne. Like Benedict, Amber was home, a place to protect and with Benedict, he thought he might reclaim and salvage and then rebuild.
Of course, with Benedict lost and things going the way they are, even if he does survive whatever choice he made, I'm not so sure he'd continue on that path. He wanted to preserve Amber and Rebma. The lady told him Rebma was a lost cause and Amber or an aspect of it might be salvaged. If nothing is salvagable, if all Martin held dear is lost, then he might just wait and gather his own power to see what the future holds long term.
