Mail and homedir moves – coming soon
I’ve moved three accounts so far, for myself and others in my immediate family. All has gone reasonably well.
I’ll be contacting individual users regarding moves of their accounts as I go forward.
A few things you should know, if you actually get your mail from indeterminate.net or a hosted domain on indeterminate.net, rather than just having it be forwarded to some other account…
You will need to change the settings for your email client -
incoming mail server: moreno.indeterminate.net
use SSL, and password authentication, via IMAP (your shell username and password)
outbound mail server: moreno.indeterminate.net, TLS, port 25, shell username and password
You can of course chose to use a different outbound server, but this now has SMTP AUTH, so you can use it from anywhere, as long as you can authenticate, and it will allow you to relay via the machine. Nice.
Some UCE prevention measures have been put into place, and they’re working – lots of settings in postfix, virus scanning via clamav (via amavis), spamassassin (via amavis) and also greylisting, which means the first time someone sends mail to you, we issue a temporary failure, and then allow the sending server to reconnect in a short period of time and deliver the mail anyway. This cuts down on spam quite a bit.
However, the transitional phase involves still accepting mail at my old server, and sending it to the new one, and so many of these settings aren’t being applied to your mail, but will be when the transition is over and everyone is on the new server, in a few days time. Then I expect you’ll see a dramatic reduction in the amount of spam you get.
